According to ESPN we just witnessed the birth of a new super-god in Stephen Strasberg… Ah, sorry but I guess I didn’t notice. …  And you know I really don’t care to read why someone thinks so. Why? Well, because it’s impossible that’s why. I don’t care if he threw a perfect game blindfolded (alright, THAT I’d notice). But as we all know, the point is that this kid has tons of potential but you need to see him for at least half a season just to make any preliminary assessments of him. Let’s get him on the road, in real games and not Spring Training conditions. And how does he do once the batters have had a chance to see him? And Stephen how’s that arm holding out after a couple of seasons? That my friends, is when you’ll see if he’s a truly great or just a flash in the pan.

And now imagine that you are Strasburg. Maybe you are one of the best, you’re excited and (I’ll offend some Nationals fans to be sure but come’on, we all know it’s true) you get drafted by the … Washington Nationals…. “The Best of Times and the Worse of Times” as Dickens so aptly described this situation. … I wonder if he’s thinking that maybe I shouldn’t have been so damn good prior to the majors so I wouldn’t go in the first round but get picked up by a team in contention instead. The Red Sox or Yankees would have been sweet. And then once in, you can let it all fly and amaze them. But who knows, on the other hand he’s a big fish in a smaller pond now and that too can be good. Either way, I’ll be making my way over to our nation’s capitol to see him pitch and I’ll be able to buy tickets on game day. Good for me. And I’ll snap some good pics if I can ever make this blogging gig pay enough to buy a decent telephoto lens (ahem..tell your friends about www.BaseballUp.com) … And how come no one is saying that I’m the super-god of baseball blogging? What’s up with that? (give then time…yes give them time… right..)
