There’s a new book called “The Baseball Codes: Beanballs, Sign Stealing, and Bench-Clearing Brawls: The Unwritten Rules of America’s Pastime”, now that’s what you call a title. .. But I don’t know if this interests me enough to read it in order to do a proper review. No, can’t say it does (but if you think so click through to Amazon on the sidebar for a good discount). But I guess here’s the gist of the book. There’s a bunch of things that you are not suppose to do in baseball because it shows disrespect. And in the act of “diss’n” you can get your butt kicked. But seriously folks how much of an ass whoopin can you possibly get on the baseball diamond? It’s not like these are ultimate fighting sort of guys (now Don Zimmer at least looked dangerous when he stormed off the bench years ago..only to get his ass kicked).  Anyway, here’s some examples from the book:

  • Jimmy Rollins flipping his bat and getting Steve Kine all PO’d
  • Jack Morris getting upset at a runner who was stealing the signals. So he gets even and beans the batter (who knows maybe the runner hated the batter and that was what he wanted in the first place).
  • Nolie putting the headlock on Robin Ventura who had to charge the mound like it or not due to “the code”

Well, that’s my review of the book I never read. But in all fairness to Jason Turbow I am hearing that it is an entertaining read. In any case, I truly wish I had thought of this fight book about baseball & making the big bucks instead of doing this freebie blog that barely keeps me in Miller Lite.
