Mark Buehrle has some streak going. He has started as the White Sox Opening Day Pitcher for eight of the past nine years. But his record, while not bad, doesn’t seem to dominate for that first game. For season openers he has a 3.99 ERA, 2 wins, 1 loss and 4 no decisions. .. Also, it seems that Buehrle doesn’t fully embrace this tradition. He recently remarked that “I still think they’re making a mistake pitching me Opening Day.” In his mind Peavy should get the ball on April 5th. Johnny Daman and the Detroit Tigers have settled on a deal that is reportedly worth $8 million for a one year term. Tigers Manager Jim Layland said “Today makes us more competitive than yesterday.. This isn’t some signing. This is a guy who has substance and a track record. …” Adding the lefty should be a positive to the Tigers Offense which finished 2nd in their division behind Minnesota with a .528 average. The Cleveland Indians are in a non-enviable position. Basically revenues are low and they compete against some teams where money is no problem.  So I guess they did the only thing they could only do… Something, Anything …. So they shook up the front office a bit. And to their credit I don’t see them blaming people as they realize that it’s very difficult to build revenue if the local economy is horrible and the fans are staying at home.
