There’s a Mercury News Editorial that makes the case for Barry Bonds becoming a leader for cleaning up baseball. .. ? So Bonds who supposedly used the juice, and used it successfully I might add, to become this super hitter. .. Who would really be loving the stuff to this day I would guess if he didn’t get charged with using it. .. Should be the guy telling our young ball players “just say no, do as I say not as I did” type of thing? And really, the question of course isn’t “hey it’s [click to contimue reading...]
David Wilder formally of the Chi White Sox was formally charged with taking kickbacks from young prospects. If you don’t know the story then here’s the deal: David was the Senior Director of Player Personnel for the White Sox who apparently according to the Chicago Tribune “The indictment alleged that Wilder and two former Sox scouts, Jorge Oquendo Rivera and Victor Mateo, fraudulently inflated the signing bonuses of Latin American prospects and then had the players kick back the extra money to them over the more than three-year scheme. In all, they pocketed about [click to contimue reading...]
Carlos apparently lost it in the dugout yesterday and has been suspended indefinitely as described in this article. .. Huh.. Not sure but I’ll bet he’s suspended with pay. Man, just imagine if real world jobs were like that. Anyway one of the things I really, truly LOVE is the fact that sweet Lou Piniella said “That’s something that can’t be tolerated. He came in after he got the third out and he started yelling and screaming. It was embarrassing. … There’s no excuse for this, none at all, no excuse whatsoever.” .. This is [click to contimue reading...]
So when does tradition translate into stupidity? Look no further than major league baseball. You see “we’ve always had human beings make the calls it’s part of the tradition of this grand old game”. Right… try telling that not only to amanda Galarraga who had his perfect game stolen from him but to Jim Joyce who blew the call, has apologized and is sort of extremely hated by everyone in Detroit. Here’s the youtube video, yeah I know it’s 7 minutes long but trust me just put your ADD on hold.. watching the two outs prior [click to contimue reading...]
Yeah, yeah they caught Edinson Volquez using steroids and suspended him for 50 games… yeah yeah. … Soooooo they suspended a guy for 50 games he wouldn’t be playing anyway since he’d be recovering from an elbow injury. .. That’s like suspending me from dating Pamela Anderson. Guess what? I wasn’t on the roster anyway. .. who knows why . … But beating your chest yakking about a 50 game suspension does sounds tough, you’ve got to give it that. Anyway I could go into an in depth analysis but if you want to be bored [click to contimue reading...]
It never stops does it? Now the people on Capitol Hill (most of which are physical slobs who eat terribly, never exercise (except their mouths) and can’t wait to call up baseball players to hearings so they can rub elbows) are looking to… are crying to.. ban smokeless tobacco, aka chewing tobacci. So this group of super-humans are going to save all of us from ourselves.. Now you know the drill, first you parade all the knuckleheads who lost part of their face due to mouth cancer or something, we all cry a little (because [click to contimue reading...]
Joe, Joe, Joe…you’ve really done it. People are ticked off and now are dredging up stuff like in 1995 when you ejected the Met’s manager and bench coach over a late lineup card (first time I heard this one but if true it seems like Joe hates to be late…play, play, play and let’s get the hell out of here…it’s a GAME … it suppose to be FUN .. I want to hang at the park and ENJOY it .. it is not my JOB ..sheesh). Here’s some links as to what other’s are saying [click to contimue reading...]
Say it isn’t so Joe.. Apparently Joe West did his very best to hustle up the Red Sox and Yankees but was unsuccessful. And why was he unsuccessful? The only reason can think of was that they really weren’t breaking any rules. So Joe couldn’t put the hammer down. ..Huh.. Well what’s Joe’s Job anyway? To call the game… So Joe, just do your job, it really isn’t too cool to have you ranting the next day that the Sox and Yankees are a disgrace. Guess what? The next time you ump a Sox or Yankees [click to contimue reading...]
The sentiment to do something to shorten baseball games ebbs and flows and now it is growing larger (I’m seriously too lazy to google ebb although I think it means to become less). .. So sentiment is growing to shorten baseball games. Well… why? You know I paid for the cable TV or the seat at the game …. and who the hell said that baseball was to be convenient .. or an easy game to watch? …. Let’s face it it can often be somewhat tedious, monotonous and exciting and interesting at the same [click to contimue reading...]
It seems that the Orioles are asking (without asking so as not to appear lame) “Isn’t the baseball schedule unfair?”. Well the short answer is, yes of course. The long answer is yes but the cure is worse than the disease. Look, the Orioles have to compete against teams with much larger payrolls who can attract the top talent. And that’s the way it is. They are closer to Boston and New York so one wouldn’t be surprised if they play against Baltimore more than the west coast teams. I haven’t checked this but wouldn’t [click to contimue reading...]
