Say it isn’t so Joe.. Apparently Joe West did his very best to hustle up the Red Sox and Yankees but was unsuccessful. And why was he unsuccessful? The only reason can think of was that they really weren’t breaking any rules. So Joe couldn’t put the hammer down.  ..Huh.. Well what’s Joe’s Job anyway? To call the game… So Joe, just do your job, it really isn’t too cool to have you ranting the next day that the Sox and Yankees are a disgrace. Guess what? The next time you ump a Sox or Yankees [click to contimue reading...]

The sentiment to do something to shorten baseball games ebbs and flows and now it is growing larger (I’m seriously too lazy to google ebb although I think it means to become less). .. So sentiment is growing to shorten baseball games. Well… why? You know I paid for the cable TV or the seat at the game …. and who the hell said that baseball was to be convenient .. or an easy game to watch? ….  Let’s face it it can often be somewhat tedious, monotonous and exciting and interesting at the same [click to contimue reading...]

There’s a new book called “The Baseball Codes: Beanballs, Sign Stealing, and Bench-Clearing Brawls: The Unwritten Rules of America’s Pastime”, now that’s what you call a title. .. But I don’t know if this interests me enough to read it in order to do a proper review. No, can’t say it does (but if you think so click through to Amazon on the sidebar for a good discount). But I guess here’s the gist of the book. There’s a bunch of things that you are not suppose to do in baseball because it shows disrespect. [click to contimue reading...]

It seems that the Orioles are asking (without asking so as not to appear lame) “Isn’t the baseball schedule unfair?”. Well the short answer is, yes of course. The long answer is yes but the cure is worse than the disease.  Look, the Orioles have to compete against teams with much larger payrolls who can attract the top talent. And that’s the way it is. They are closer to Boston and New York so one wouldn’t be surprised if they play against Baltimore more than the west coast teams. I haven’t checked this but wouldn’t [click to contimue reading...]

Michael Weiner, the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association is not willing to go along with a proposal to permit randomized blood testing for substances such as human growth hormone (HGH). According to Weiner the science isn’t proven as yet. MLB thinks we’re good to go and cite a case of a International Rugby Player who tested positive and never challenged thereby leading to the assumption that the test was correct (probably an excellent assumption). Look, I don’t know and unless you have a PhD in Biochemistry you don’t know either. And [click to contimue reading...]

Test your reaction time against a fastball and see if it’s bad enough for a strike or good enough for a home run. It takes 0.4 seconds for a 90 mph heater to reach the plate. How pitching and hitting pushes our biological limits. How to throw a Curve, Fastball, Screwball and Slider. There are three “sweet spots” on a baseball bat. How you can find them with a hammer.

Fox News has put up some general information on attending Spring Training. For instance there may be Package Deals available as is for Phillies Fans who can book at the Hyatt and score game tickets and a rental car as part of the package. The Fox Spring Training Article can be found here. A Florida Grapefruit League Site is here. A Cactus League Site is here.

That is according to Mr. Catania when compared to his changeup, “..his best pitch”. To this point I disagree, a heater in the 90-98 mph range is an incredible pitch to have in your arsenal. But, and I think this is towards his point, the fact that he’s not a one pitch wonder but has other excellent options such as his changeup just makes him extremely effective at sitting down batters. It’s no wonder that this two time Cy Young Winner has signed such a lucrative contract. You can read Jason Catania’s article excerpt here [click to contimue reading...]
